Christina Rasmussen

Christina Rasmussen believes that when you experience a loss, a death, a divorce, a professional disaster, or any kind of devastating disappointment, it can be an experience that either shatters you forever — or an experience that inspires you to live, love, and create more fiercely than ever.

What determines the difference?

It all comes down to the story you tell yourself — and the actions you are willing to take.

Christina is no stranger to grief and devastation, herself. When she lost her 35-year old husband to cancer — leaving her alone with two small children — the agony seemed almost un-survivable. As a professional grief counselor, she felt that she should have been able to just "get though it." But there was a gap in her expertise. The old models of grief recovery she’d been taught were not as effective as she hoped.

Something was missing.

That "something," she soon realized, was " action."

New steps. New motion. New stories. Not just "talking" about loss and staying inside the “waiting room” of grief, but taking courageous action to create a new life and re-enter the world.

This realization led to a radical new approach to grief recovery The Rasmussen Reentry Practitioner Program. As the founder of Second Firsts and The Life Starters, Christina is on a crusade to help millions of people rebuild, reclaim, and relaunch their lives using the power of their own minds.

Christina’s work has been featured on ABC News, NPR, The White House Blog, and She is the bestselling author of Second Firsts: Live, Laugh, and Love Again, which has also been translated in Chinese and German and is currently working on her first work of fiction: a science fiction story about a woman on a quest to start over and begin a new life.

She resides in San Francisco, California, with her husband, Eric, their four daughters, and their dogs, Tyson and Gracie. When she’s not coaching, writing, or training Reentry Practitioners, she plays with oil paints in her living room.

"When it's your time to go, you won't wish you'd spent more time grieving. You’ll wish you'd spent more time living."
